Create balance and optimize your health
What happens during an ayurvedic lifestyle consultation?
An ayurvedic lifestyle consultation always begins with a review of your health history, eating habits, and lifestyle and sleep routines. A pulse and tongue diagnostic can further help me to detect deeper lying imbalances. With an imbalance in the doshas and their increased or decreased presence in the body, the three qualities (vata, pitta, kapha) will also increase or decrease their presence. Furthermore, we will talk about your experienced symptoms and what you want to change or need help with. In other words, your expectations, and goals with our meeting. In addition, I will assess your skin, hair, and nails to get a full picture of your physical health.
Together we will find the root cause of your symptoms. As a result, you will get simple and easy-to-follow advice and recommendations that supports and develops your wellbeing. Most importantly, we will talk about your Agni, your digestive ability, your daily eating and sleeping habits, as well as when, how, and what you eat during a day. Evaluating your Agni is very important as it can be a root cause of problems like arthritis, joint pain, fatigue, and gut issues. Moreover, we will talk about your emotional and mental health, because we are not only a body, rather a body with a soul and emotions that should feel good. You will receive dietary advice as well as recommendations of what in your lifestyle habit need to change to improve your health. In addition, you may receive guidance for suitable massage treatments, yoga and breathing exercises. Read more about the different ayurvedic massage treatments that I offer here.
If stress is a major factor in your distress, you will receive suggestions for meditation, breathing and yoga exercises as these are the best tools to biohack your mental and emotional wellbeing. Information of the right foods and herbs to eat and how to simply manage stress on a day-to-day basis is also included. Or maybe you are just curious about Ayurvedic diet and want to eat according to your dosha? You want to feel and eat better with the help of Ayurveda and get a holistic approach to your health? To get a general assessment of how Ayurveda could assist you feel free to contact me by e-mail.
How does an online Ayurvedic consultation work?
If you decide to meet me “online” we will either have a video or phone conversation depending on what’s available to you. You will receive a health questionnaire in advance, and I will need you to send me a photo of your tongue by e-mail. 1 to 2 days prior to our meeting you will need to send back all files. The assessment is based on the forms, our conversation, Jihva Pariksha (examination of tongue) and Akriti Pariksha (assessment of physique/ general body build).
Who comes to an Ayurvedic counseling?
I have clients that come to see me because they generally feel out of balance and simply do not feel well. Some clients suffer from chronic fatigue or burnout. Others have chronic issues with their gut health or were diagnosed with IBS (Iirritable bowel syndrome) and don’t get anywhere in the conventional healthcare system. Most of my clients are women, who want to know more about how they can manage their menstrual or menopausal symptoms, and how Ayurveda can help them to find hormonal balance. I do cooperate with different therapist to give my clients the best solutions!
What are common symptoms people have?
Many of my clients experience symptoms like bloating, discomfort or pain in the gut and they want to know how Ayurveda can help to improve their gut health, intestinal flora and reduce IBS symptoms. I had undiagnosed IBS symptoms for more than 10 years! I tried many things and was able to help myself with Ayurveda and alternative medicine. Most of my customers experience hormonal imbalances and need to reduce stress and want natural remedies to alleviate their PMS & menopausal symptoms. Fatigue and burnout are also very common among my clients and often comes in combination with poor digestion and hormonal imbalances. In addition to my untreated gut imbalance I found out that my constant fatigue was due to long-term stress! What I was experiencing was a proper burn out for years without realizing it!
There are many things you can do and eat to find hormonal balance – to live in harmony with your menstrual cycle and to ease the transition into menopause. However, it is YOU who does all the work, and I can guide you through the process. You may be a person that applies changes effortlessly and it is easy for you to adjust to new routines, or you easily feel overwhelmed with the new challenges, or it may be difficult to implement a new way of life into your day-to-day life. No matter how the situation is, I always have an open conversation about possibilities. I expect you to have an honest conversation with yourself AND me, and maybe after our first meeting you realize that you are not ready to take the first step yet. Whatever you decide is fine and may be the best choice you make for yourself right now!
Ayurveda – what does it mean and what are the goals?
Ayurveda is Sanskrit and has its origins in the word “ayus” (life) and “veda” (science). It is a 5000 year old wisdom for natural health and inner development. Most importantly, the system of Ayurveda always considers all aspects of life: we are body, mind (thoughts and emotions) and soul. Body, soul, thoughts, and emotions are considered a holistic entity and need to be considered to achieve balance and optimal health. Consequently, to cure and prevent disease and imbalances, as well as to develop perfect health are the three main goals.
Everyone has a specific constitution that is based on a combination of the three doshas (vata, pitta and kapha). They can be balanced through a variety of modalities such as ayurvedic massage, diet, and techniques to manage the mind. So, the purpose is for the doshas to be in balance and for us to feel happy and satisfied on all levels. Therefore, the health counseling and treatment modality is based on the person’s dosha and “vikritis” (dosha imbalances).
As already mentioned, the circumstances such as diet, season, living and working environment, relationships, thoughts, and emotions affect overall health. When the balance is disturbed, symptoms arise that give insights into what’s needed to create balance and to maintain health and prevent disease. But change takes time.
Is there a difference between a test-based and ayurvedic health consultation?
In both health consultations the aim is to prevent and promote well-being with focus on diet and lifestyle measures. For instance, in a test-based nutrition coaching a test (blood, stool, or/ and urine) and a wellness questionnaire are the basis for a conversation. The tests are done in advance and the consultation is booked when you have received the results. So, I recommend a nutrition coaching for people who are more analytical and need to know exactly what is wrong with the help of numbers. Read more here about what I do in a health and nutrition coaching.
As for an ayurvedic lifestyle coaching session, the pulse reading, tongue diagnostics, evaluation of the digestive status and metabolic ability, and the wellness questionnaire is the basis. Firstly, we will analyze the capacity of your Agni (digestion) and eating patterns. Secondly, we will take about your daily routines such as sleep, exercise, and stress management. Your daily routines and eating habits will either promote or counteract your “dosha” or constitution and we will discuss what to do and eat to improve it. So, no tests are done but rather have an in-depth conversation about your physical, emotional, and mental health.
